Upper Clackamas River Festival

Dutch Oven Cookoff - Saturday - May 17, 2007

OKAY Dutch oven Masters—it’s time to start planning and cooking for this year’s cook-off!

Participation is FREE! Sign up at the main tent.

Judging will begin at five o’clock so be prepared to serve at that time.

Two categories - two classifications

Categories: Main Dish and/or Dessert

Classifications: Adult(17+) or Junior

 Judging is based on:

  • Aroma and taste

  • Resourcefulness/creativity of ingredients
  • Preparation and presentation
  • Overall originality
  •
I am asked every year by those disappointed rafters why they did not place in the winner’s circle for the Dutch Oven Cook off. What is the secret of winning? The answer is simple....aroma and taste, appearance, creativity and preparation!  Recipes can be complicated...or pretty darn easy!  But it's all fun.  Come and show your stuff!

    Guidelines and criteria for entries:

  • All foods must be prepared on location. No prior preparation. The theory for the competition is to have provisions that can actually be prepared on the river.

  • Bring what you need to do the deed - charcoal, utensils, etc.

  • The entry should be large enough to serve 15-20 people after judging. The entrant is to provide flatware, plates and napkins. There will be spectators and they will want to sample your creation.

  • Have your recipe available for review and distribution in the NWRA newsletter, on this website and at the event.

  • The emphasis of the cookoff is originality. Whatever your favorite riverside Dutch oven dish is, please share your talents!
  • See you on the river red hot and cooking!
